Areas of Practice:

Entry Level Faculty Position

Congratulations! You are considering joining the American professoriate. Being a faculty member at a college or university is a fantastic and rewarding career. Even though faculty searches are performed routinely, they are rarely routine. Many qualified candidates for entry faculty positions are unprepared for the rigors of the search process. We have extensive experience in assisting first-time applicants to develop their portfolios and hone their interview skills.

Seeking your initial faculty position can be a stressful undertaking. Don’t go at it alone or with minimal assistance when experienced and personalized consultation is available to you.

Entry Level Administrative Positions

Moving from the faculty to an administrative position as a chair, associate dean, or similar position is a significant change in job duties and responsibilities. The interview process for entry level academic positions is very different than that conducted for faculty. The skill sets that provide for success as a faculty member are not the same as those for an administrator. It is essential that candidates demonstrate a robust understanding of these differences in order to be successful in making the transition.

Faculty Career Advancement

One of the benefits of a career as a faculty member is the opportunity to move from one institution to another. Faculty may transition between institutions for many reasons, including, but not limited to: family needs, spousal employment, compensation and/or benefits, geography, and the desire to seek new challenges and opportunities.

The interview process for experienced faculty requires a very different approach on the part of the candidate as compared to new faculty seeking their initial position.

Let us assist you in showcasing your prior successes and providing the most compelling case for your desire to change institutions.

Executive Level Administrative Positions

We have extensive experience with searches for the positions of Provost/VPAA and President/Chancellor. At these senior positions, the stakes are high, even more so with the increasingly public nature of senior level searches. We can assist you to anticipate questions, provide concise responses, and make personal connections with those involved in the search process. Don’t rely on the search consultant to prepare you for the rigors of a senior level search - that is not their job.

Chair to Dean

Moving from Chair to Dean is a significant step, often considered as leaving the domain of faculty and entering the realm of professional administrator.  The challenges associated with this transition are significant and place a considerably broader array of responsibilities upon the successful candidate.  The search process for Deans is rigorous and typically includes an expanded set of constituents from within the institution and well beyond the campus environment.  Furthermore, the candidate pool for Dean positions often contains sitting deans from other institutions.  To compete successfully alongside these experienced candidates, Chairs need to be exceptionally well prepared.  Let us help you.

Moving Up Within Your Current Institution

Are you considering being an ‘internal’ candidate for an academic position at your home institution, or are you hoping to negotiate for an administrative promotion without a full search? These are special circumstances that require alternative approaches as compared to a regular search. We can help.
